Frequently Asked Questions

No. Payments such as Carer Payment, Carer Allowance, Carer Supplement or Disability Pension and Child Disability Assistance Payment as well as other income supports and payments are entirely separate to the NDIS and will not be affected by NDIS eligibility.

The NDIS is NOT means tested. A carer’s payment will not be affected unless their role as carer is substantially reduced due to the level of NDIS funding for the person they are caring for.

If you currently receive Disability Supports and decide you would like to transition to the NDIS, you may need to provide additional evidence so that a well informed decision can be decided about your NDIS eligibility.

Disability programs and services differ in each state and territory.

No. Self managing NDIS participants have the option of selecting services from registered or unregistered providers – unless there are specific services and supports that require registration with the NDIS Commission.
However, selecting a registered provider can provide NDIS participants with the assurance that the provider’s services and supports meet the level of quality and safety determined in the NDIS Practice Standards.

The national NDIS Worker Screening Check and the NDIS Worker Screening Database are valuable and informative in assisting in supporting the dignity, safety and welfare of NDIS participants.
