Clarifying NDIS Eligibility – Metro Healthcare Australia

No, receiving government allowances does not make you ineligible for the NDIS. Payments such as the Carer Payment, Carer Allowance, Carer Supplement, Disability Support Pension, or Child Disability Assistance Payment are separate from the NDIS and do not impact your eligibility.

The NDIS is not means tested, which means your income or existing financial support does not affect your access to the scheme. If you’re a carer, your payments will remain the same unless your caring role significantly changes due to the level of support provided by the NDIS to the person you care for.

If you’re currently receiving other disability supports and want to transition to the NDIS, you may need to provide additional supporting evidence. This ensures the NDIA can make a clear and accurate decision about your eligibility.

Keep in mind that disability programs and services can vary between states and territories in Australia.

For more detailed information about transitioning from other support programs to the NDIS, visit the official NDIS website:

No. Self managing NDIS participants have the option of selecting services from registered or unregistered providers – unless there are specific services and supports that require registration with the NDIS Commission. However, selecting a registered provider can provide NDIS participants with the assurance that the provider’s services and supports meet the level of quality and safety determined in the NDIS Practice Standards.
